Background Info
Fujitsu Laboratories of America, Inc. (FLA), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd., established in 1993, headquartered in Sunnyvale, California. With research offices in College Park, MD and Richardson, TX, FLA focuses on research and development on component and device technologies, trusted computing, network systems, and connected information innovation research.
FLA conducts research in an open and networked environment, and contributes to the world of research communities through joint research projects with universities and research organizations, and through the free exchange of ideas within the technical community.
FLA represents another important step toward Fujitsu's goal of a global R&D capability. Ultimately Fujitsu Laboratories will be able to stimulate the creativity of researchers on different continents as the multimedia age continues to knit the world together. Read the President's Message.
Research Areas
Component and Device Innovation Group – Focus on advanced circuit and semiconductor technologies for high-speed and low power computing and communications.
Connected Information Innovation Center – We believe that the most significant innovations in information technology happening today are in the realm of connected information. This rather broad research effort involves the search for fundamental principles of information organization, the construction of infrastructures that facilitate this process of creating new connections and the 'dissolution' that must precede it.
Marketing and Business Innovation Group – The Marketing and Business Innovation Group provides relevant insights on technology markets and emerging technology trends in order to support Fujitsu product design & development, explore business opportunities for technologies developed by Fujitsu Labs, and support Fujitsu business development and alliances with 3rd-parties.
Network Systems Innovation Group – The Network Systems Innovation Group focus on advanced technologies on optical module, photonic node, photonic network system, and network management for communications.
Trusted Systems Innovation Group – Our mission is to establish "trust" of, by, and in hardware, software, and protocols. Malware, software viruses, defects in hardware/software, flawed protocols, and hardware failures cause major disruption in IT infrastructure. They have large negative social impact because the IT systems are deeply integrated with the society. From large systems such as e-commerce, bank, and government systems, to wired/wireless networks and embedded systems, IT systems have become increasingly found in daily life. For an entity including a human being to "trust" another party at the other end of the network, it requires that (1) the entity can certifiably communicate its identity and environment to the other party, and that (2) All IT system components (hardware, software, protocols) behave as intended. Our research theme focuses developing techniques addressing these two subtopics to achieve the mission of establishing "trust".
